Goodnight, Rubin

A fond and teary-eyed farewell to Rubin, who died this morning. Rubin was 2 years and 4 months old. I’ll miss you, Momma Rubin.

  1. Thank you, Giliell. Rubin was an odd girl, and I loved her all the more for it. She was a terrific momma, too.

  2. ImaginesABeach, thank you. We were pretty lucky to have her.

Thank you, Anne. Rubin was a sweetie, and I don’t know how she managed to survive to get to us (most odd-eyed rats are culled and Rubin was slated to be a feeder rat), but I’m thankful for every day we had, and of course, all those ratlets she gave us.

  3. The ratlets are mostly fine. Havelock is in a bit of a frenzy, running all over, fussing over everything and everyone, making sure they all know they still have a parent around. Pearl was exceptionally close to her mama, and she’s having a bit of difficult time.

  4. I am so sorry, Inaji. As others have said above, Rubin was a very good mama rat, and she will be missed. You know how much I have enjoyed hearing all about her and her family and her extended family.

*many hugs and gentle pets for the ratties*

  5. Thank you, Hekuni Cat. Rubin’s old age began to show not long after her 2nd birthday, so I wasn’t terribly surprised, but it’s still hard to lose them. I’m mostly worried about Pearl, she’s not taking it well at all.

  6. Well, I won’t, because Pearl isn’t much a one for pets, cuddles or anything else. She got that sort of thing from Rubin. I’ll try and talk her into extra treats for you. :D
