  1. Are the caves just dowels, or are they made of Special Rat Munchies?

    And how’re you doing?

  2. Chigau, oh, they’ve been short on the crunchy front for a while – rats *love* their crunchies. The new caves didn’t hurt, either – stuff to gnaw on!

Giliell, they have that affect on me, too.

Cicely, the caves are made of the standard rat chew sticks (only larger) – I think they’re apple wood. The difference here is that there’s a piece of malleable metal through the middle, so you can shape them how you like. Their old one is almost chewed completely through. Me? Busy! Gad, I have too much to do. Rick’s birthday is coming up and given how tight money has been, I’ve decided to hand make his gifties, so…more work.

  3. How long does one of the chewy caves last under the onslaught of so many?

I hope your hand making of gifties goes smoothly and successfully. *hugs*

  4. Well, I’m not sure – reasonably long, I think. The first one is still in the condo, and we’ve had it around a year or so. They are well worth the 9 bucks, especially considering that a pack of 6 smaller chew sticks is 5 bucks.

Ah, thank you! I really have to get started on that stuff, his bday is on the 18th.

  5. Yikes! But I’m sure your clever and speedy fingers will manage just fine. :D

  6. Gad, I hope so! Rick’s going to take part of his birthday off so we can go see the new Star Trek flick on opening night. Excitement.

  7. When I got my first rat, so many years ago, someone told me not to feed her uncooked pasta. Have I been so wrong? Looks like its a fun crunchy my current boys will love.

  8. Hi, Dutchgirl. Pasta is a fine treat for rats, they like it and it makes a good chew for keeping their teeth trim and healthy. You should try to get them to eat whole wheat pasta, which is healthier than the standard enriched sort, but some rats won’t touch the wheat variety (like mine). Experiment with different types, some shapes are preferred. The absolute favourite right now is Pantacce, they adore it. What Agnes is making off with in the photo is Paccheri.
