Caaaake! Delicious Caaaake for World Rat Day!

Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. A most serious hit. A slight edit here – thanks to Owned by Rats and crew, I learned that April 4th is World Rat Day.  Good thing the WRD post was all about the rats cramming cake into their mouths. :D  I’ll have to do a bit more planning next year.

  1. It was delicious. Also much trouble. Now the crew wants cake for breakfast every day.

  2. Not to dis the ratties’ connoisseurshipness but would the reaction be greatly different if you just dumped the ingredients on their feeding space?
Is raw egg good for rats?
(I keep asking these ‘good for’ questions.)

  3. Yes, I think it would be. They loathe carrots and raisins, and no amount of coaxing or different prep will change that. (Yes, they spit out the carrot strips and raisins in the cake.) The only ingredient that would be automagically loved would be cream cheese, and that would take a while, since it would be plain, not sweet.

  4. Oops, missed the raw egg. I wouldn’t allow them raw egg due to the possibility of them getting salmonella. They do like cooked egg once in a while, scrambled or hard boiled. They are fond of the yolk in an over-easy egg, too.

  5. Turns out I had an actual excuse this time, Giliell! April 4th is World Rat Day. :D

  6. Thank you, Hekuni Cat! I’ll have to try and remember for next year…I’ll probably remember two weeks afterward. :D
