  1. No, they don’t mind at all. Frozen veg are crunchy and good to chew on. They’re much more sensitive to heat than cold when it comes to veg. Besides, semi-frozen allows them to score treasure chunks!

  2. Hunting for the big frozen chunks makes me think of how treats are frozen in blocks of ice as enrichment for otters in the aquarium. :D

I cannot wait until we’re all set up for our own rats.

  3. Hahahaha, ah, I didn’t know that about otters. :D Rats do love having a veggie pool and some of them really enjoy getting in that water. I’ve given up on the water dish ever being used for drinking. They all use it as a bath. I must change the water out over a dozen times a day. Goofballs.

Take many, many pictures when you do, I want to see!

  4. Seconding chigau, “squeeee!”

Are there any veggies they don’t like? My cats have generally had no use at all for veggies (although grapes and french fries were great for batting around on hardwood floors), but Chloe has a particular loathing for carrots. She even hates the smell of them on your hands and acts as if you are trying to poison her.

  5. Yes, carrots. I have not had a single rat yet that will eat a carrot. Won’t eat them raw. Won’t eat them steamed. Won’t eat them stewed. Will. Not. Eat. They’ll at least try most other veg. After a veggie pool like this one, I end up picking up all the discarded carrots for days.
